The first 2 Cube singles Two heads are better than one and Prince of the Moment

Cube were composed of Paul Griffiths, Rudy Trevisi and Serse May.  They were based out of Italy but are clearly not Italians.  Not much info. on this fact.  But I can say that I love their sound.  It's definitely out of the new wave vein but also quite Italo Disco too.

They only had one full album release and that was in 1983 with Can Can in the Garden.

CAN CAN IN THE GARDEN
The second single Prince of the Moment was produced by Mauro Malavisi who is best known for his work with B.B. and Q. Band, Change, Revanche, Macho, Zinc and much more.

The sound reminds me a lot of another huge italo hit of the period State of the Nation by Industry.

I hope for some of you Cube are a band you didn't know and can appreciate and for others I hope they are just the right stroll down memory lane.

Revelation Day First Vision il discotto italo disco HIGH ENERGY gem

Franco Zasa and Tony Travagliante are italo disco producers who found success.  First as the act known as First Vision with 1983's Revelation Day and later with a series of releases under the moniker Los Angeles T.F. DANCE MIX Since I just sold my last copy tonight I'll post it for you.  my ebay listing  I tend to think that those of you who are downloading off my blog are not the same ones who buy from my store.  But since I don't know I'll just throw it up here anyway.  It's a fun song enjoy it.

I so often say that 1983 was my absolute favorite year for italo disco.  So many great tunes and such a variety of sounds too.

LOVING IN THE SNOW is not by Modern Talking

I think I've had a soft spot for a falsetto since Love So Right by The Bee Gees was my favorite song all those moons ago when I wasn't even a teenager yet.

The German band Modern Talking had a long string of Euro hits in the 80's featuring falsetto vocals so naturally this sound alike by Ocean Wings is sweet to me.  It's sweet to the collector's too as you're not going to find a copy for less then $200.00. GRAB IT

Other aliases for Ocean Wings include G. G. Near , One System and Superbowl.

OVER AND OVER ATRIUM ITALO DISCO JOY FROM 1987

1987 italo disco track Over and Over by Atrium is cheerful and upbeat.  The happy side of italo disco that brings back great memories for so many.  Time Records was one of the major imprints of the sound in the eighties.  1987 was definitely a winding down year for Italo as less and less releases came out by then and as house music was the hot sound on dance floors around the world by then.

BOTH SIDES OF THE MAXI SINGLE

I'm going to keep on keepin' on with my italo disco slant.  There are already so many other blogs which spotlight disco or house I feel that this genre deserves to be remembered.  Furthermore it brings me a lot of personal pleasure.  I spent a lot of time in Europe in the 80's before moving her permanently in 1998 so let a middle aged reminisce O.K.

Captain Terra X (24 More Hours) by Tea Ês

Particularly long for 1985 (almost ten minutes) but it's delicious straight through.

This is just the kind of italo disco we scream over here in Disco Vinyl.   The only release by

Tea Ês.  It came out in 1985 on the Germany label on Jupiter Records.

The video here features the German version.

ALISHA not just Baby Talk

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. April 16, 1968, Alisha Ann Itkin in art ALISHA came onto the scene in 1984.  With a sound truly influenced by Madonna yet with the pulse on the N.Y. underground ELECTRO scene she had her moment.  Unfortunately her career peaked before even hitting the age of 20.

Though she had three albums one in 1985, one in 1987 and the last in 1990 to me it was all about that debut album.  With both Mark Berry and Shep Pettibone on her team how could she lose?  An impressive 5 twelve inch singles were released off an album with only 6 songs!  How's that for working the marketing to the fullest?  She was also one of the few NON latino artists embraced by the FREESTYLE community.

In December 1985 she had her biggest hit when Baby Talk went to #1 on the Billboard Dance Chart.  But I think my favorite was Stargazin' because it was the least played out and I really love the lyrics.  Just a few years older then Alisha I too had stars in my eyes at the time.  But I guess I just had to content myself with being one of the most fashion forward and in your face kids on The American University quad.  AN ALISHA ZIP

THIS LOVE IS REAL VALERIE Mc NAIR an obscure Detroit dance effort

This scarce double A side came out on a private press label out of Detroit, Michigan called Real Rhythm Records.  On discogs.com there are only 5 listings for this label so it's real obscure.

The click's got that whole call and response thing going on and a bit of a rap.  So it sounds a bit more dated.  While This Love is Real is a bit more on the electro-freestyle tip.  They are both great and even though I'm selling my copy in my ebay store I'm gonna let you have a nice rip of one side.

FRANKIE KNUCKLES MIXES, THE PARADISE GARAGE 1978, WAREHOUSE 1981, more mixes and some reminiscing

WAREHOUSE CHICAGO 1981 MIX  YOUR LOVE
So I'm a little late to the Frankie tribute game.  But I'd have to say that it's because I've been beside myself.  But by now I've cried it out and I'm ready to share, like I always do here in Disco Vinyl.
YOUR LOVE DUSTY KID EDIT

I feel like Frankie Knuckles is the soundtrack to my years in New York City.  He was freshly back from Chicago and spinning in The Crystal Room at The World in 1988 when I was just coming up in the club kid scene and working the ticket ripping post at The World's v.i.p. club IT.
FRANKIE MIX SOUND FACTORY 1991
Then magically he got to take over the wheels of steel at The Sound Factory for a period in 1990 to 1991.  Definitely the period in which I went to factory the most.  Why?  Because with Frankie you could be insured the pretty.  You knew you'd get female vocals and not just bitch tracks.  You knew you'd never get pots and pans.  Frankie had a dreamer's touch.  The magic of a man who loved what he played and wanted you to love it too.

And when the spot got snatched back and returned to Junior Vasquez, Frankie made the ex Private Eyes, Sound Factory Bar Fridays into the primo dance spot that it was for those years in the early 90's.  A cozy spot and a great night out with his sweet buddy Manny Ward spinning downstairs.
SOUND FACTORY BAR 1993
He got a gig in Philadelphia at a circuit party.  I can't remember the name other then it had colors in the title.  But I do know that agroup of my friends and I went down and had a great time.
THIS TIME FRANKIE KNUCKLES BOMB MIX
I remember I went up to the booth once at Sound Factory Bar and even though Frankie and I had only said a few words in passing over the years, he knew exactly who I was.  And when I handed him a cassette he gladly recorded the next 90 minutes and what a 90 minutes that it was.  I played that tape out!  If only I could figure out what I did with it.
A HOT ZIP OF FRANKIE MIXES
Oh and the tears on that last Friday night in 1995.  I remember a gorgeous moment when rose petals fell from the ceiling during the peak of This Time by Chante Moore.  One of the definitive Frankie Knuckles mix masterpieces.
NOTGONNACHANGE CLASSIC CLUB MIX
I also remember that night at The Roxy on a Saturday when Frankie debuted his mix of Swing Out Sister's NOTGONNACHANGE.  Oh my God it was simply astonishing.  I was dancing yet I felt like I was being transported into the heavens.  I might've had a little help in reaching those celestial heavens but I was in my 20's and that was then.
GROOVE ON wild pitch mix...another dance floor fave from that era

Tracklist Sound Factory Bar mix from 1991.

What other DJ has his own street name?

And how many DJ's have ever been photographed with the President and the First Lady?

And what D.J. did they mention in the N.Y. Times?

AIN'T NOTHING GONNA KEEP ME FROM YOU TERI DE SARIO

Miami born Teri DeSario was discovered by BeeGee Barry Gibb.  He went on to write her debut single Ain't Nothing Gonna Keep Me From You which was a double A sided twelve inch with The Stuff That Dreams are Made Of.  They both became well known disco hits in 1978.  Ain't Nothing is one of those songs that everyone seems to know but wasn't actually that big a hit.  I guess the association with the BeeGees worked out well because they were so huge in the late seventies.  In any case it is a happy-go-lucky crowd pleaser and always manages to put a smile on my face.

The next year Teri had a huge pop hit with K.C. of the Sunshine Band with Yes I'm Ready.  It shot all the way up to #2 on the U.S. pop charts and even made the Top 20 on the R&B chart.  But it sort of sealed her fate as a one hit wonder.  By 1983 she started singing christian music.

As usual I invite you to click on my ads, joined my Facebook networked blogs group and if you can contribute a little something with my paypal ap.  I really enjoy bringing the tunes to you and your input and kind words.
